Warnings: This is OC, and it's a sequel to Finally, you can read this alone but the feeling would be better if you had read the other one.
Summary: Chinen Yuri defies all of Mayu's ideals but she still loves him.
Inoue Mayu would be turning 18 in a few hours. It was not really in her plan to do a countdown for her birthday, but she just did, unknowingly. In reality, she was not doing a countdown, she was counting.
Counting what?
Counting the times she knows she shouldn’t but she did fall in love with Chinen Yuri. She’s turning 18 soon, she’s gonna be older than him in no time. How weird it is to fall in love with someone who is not only younger than you but also smaller and prettier.
She had known the small boy ever since they were little and she had always loved him even during the times that he knows he’s not perfect. She knows that he’s not always the happy child he always pretends to be. But she loves him, even though he’s the complete opposite of what she wants.
Everyone has ideal boyfriends, and Inoue Mayu always wanted someone who is taller and older than her.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHINEN YURI!” Mayu, 15 years old, handed Chinen a gift box.
“Thank you Mayu-chan!” The little kid exclaimed happily as he opened the box but as soon as he did, his smile turned into a frown. “What’s this?”
“It’s milk! And discount coupons for more milk!” Mayu patted Chinen’s head, “I want you to grow taller!” And then she walked away, leaving the poor kid to look at the number of coupons.
She knew she can’t do anything about Chinen being younger than her so she hoped and hoped that Chinen would grow to become someone who is taller than her so she continued on giving him lots and lots of milk.
But, it didn’t work because 2 years later, Chinen still 6cm smaller than her. And it doesn’t bother her. It’s okay that Chinen’s smaller and he’s younger, its okay. She doesn’t care if it goes against what she wants as long as Chinen Yuri’s smiling and is there beside her, smaller or whatever.
So she concentrated on the fact that she wants someone who is considerate of her, of whatever her mistakes are.
She was nervous that day; she promised Chinen she’s walk with him to school so she prepared a lot. She combed her hair and cleaned and she just wanted to be perfect, not someone people would say that looks ugly. After all, this is Chinen Yuri we are talking about, her crush and a trainee at Johnny’s. She was so busy preparing that she forgot the time and panicked when she saw how late it was.
She hurriedly ran to the door and saw Chinen, “Good Morning Yuri!”
But instead of a perky reply, the little boy was irritated.
“Mayu-chan! You told me to be here at exactly 6:00AM! It’s already 6:17AM! You’re late!”
Her happy and excited self got dissolved a soon as she heard those words, “If you got bored, you should have went by yourself! I’m not forcing you to go with me!”
Chinen replied with an “I don’t know where the school is!”
“Well, poor you!” She screamed back.
And the two of them fought verbally all the way to school.
She knew it was her fault in the first place, but all she wanted was that Chinen be considerate that she wanted to look good for him and everyone so that he would not look like someone who is walking with garbage.
But it was okay. She doesn’t mind that Chinen gets mad a lot and yell a lot and just be hot-headed a lot of times. As long as Chinen pays attention to her, even just the little details, she’s happy. She doesn’t care that she wanted someone who was considerate when you can have a cute hot-headed kid?
She always dreams of someone that is kind and nice.
“You what?!” Mayu screamed and was silenced immediately by Chinen’s hands.
Chinen eyed her, “Ugh, why do I have to repeat it Mayu-chan? I said I have Hey!Say!JUMP members wrapped around my small delicate pretty fingers. They follow my every command and such.”
“How could you? You should treat your friends with respect!”
“I know, but who cares about those things? I like them and they adore me, its okay.”
Chinen Yuri’s not kind and not nice in a lot of ways. Most of the time he’s manipulative and sneaky and evil, it’s like looking at a naughty kid that steals candy from other kids (although this time it’s a naughty kid who steals pocky from Daiki and strawberry from Yamada).
But it’s okay because he looks happy and cute as soon as he got what he wanted. It doesn’t bother her that he’s so self-confident and manipulative. As long as he cares for her, everything is fine.
Mayu had always wanted someone that would listen to what she says and take it as a good advice.
“Stop studying too much, Yuri. You should go to sleep and play and have fun, everyone’s worried.” She tried explaining but the small kid doesn’t even look at her. “CHINEN YURI GO AND STOP STUDYING!” She grabbed the books and threw them somewhere.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”
“Why are you even so addicted at studying?! It’s of no use to you!”
“IT IS! IT’S VERY IMPORTANT!” And he grabbed the books and started studying again.
He doesn’t really listen to everything she says, he’s too hard headed to do so. He does what he thinks is right and stands up to it. He doesn’t care if people opposes to it.
But it’s okay, because most of the time Chinen Yuri’s right and Mayu doesn’t have to worry about Chinen Yuri getting all depressed and suicidal. And besides, Mayu likes seeing Chinen’s name in number 5, because she knows it’s the best he can do.
Chinen Yuri’s not her ideal guy in many ways, you can’t really even call him a guy, more like a boy or a small kid. He’s the opposite of what she wanted for a boyfriend because she knows that Chinen Yuri will always be there for her whenever she feels down or get heartbroken.
“Mayu…?” Chinen climbs up the window of her room.
She was currently on her bed, crying and looking lost as hell.
“Yu…Yuri?”
“Yes.”
“Oh, Yuri!” She cried and leaned on Chinen, hugging him and using his shoulders as her head rest, wetting the shirt. She doesn’t care as long as his warmth helped ease her pain.
“Why did he break up with you?”
Mayu actually didn’t want to tell him why, it was so cliché, the reason, “He says that…that I’m not good enough for him now that he debuted with you.”
And Mayu saw for the first time the anger that was so fierce she herself got scared. She didn’t know what he did do but the next day, Nakayama-kun begged for forgiveness with a big bandage on his eyes and cheeks.
In reality, Mayu didn’t even know why she dated Nakayama Yuma. Was it because he looked older and mature? Was it because he was considerate of her feelings? Was it because he was kind and nice to everyone? Was it because he listens to her? She doesn’t know, because all she knows is that he could never be a substitute for Chinen.
Somehow, Mayu was finally able to fall asleep, excited for tomorrow’s celebration with Chinen and heartbroken because she knows Chinen Yuri would never love her, the same was she loves him. Because hey, there’s nothing special about her anyway.
Or that was until Chinen proved it wrong.
“I love you.” Was the best confession she ever heard, no, not those long candy-coated confession, but a short direct to the point and sure confession.
And she was happy because she made Chinen the happiest boy alive as soon as she accepted his confession.
“So~ want to watch that DVD LE I bought?” Chinen asked, standing next to her.
She smiled, “Wait I’ll just grab my—“
And Chinen placed his lips on top of hers for that long-awaited kiss that both of them had been dreaming for, forever.
“Mayu is the sweetest dessert I have ever tasted.” Chinen answered, blushing.
“Oh shut up.”
But Mayu knows that even if Chinen Yuri is not her ideal boyfriend, and Chinen Yuri doesn’t even come close to what she actually really wanted, it was okay because Chinen Yuri loves her more than she loves him.
